Martin Luther King’s family split on gay marriage

Youngest child supports ban; wife opposes it Published 10:00 pm PST, Sunday, January 16, 2005. ATLANTA – Martin Luther King Jr.’s youngest child lit a torch at her father’s tomb last month to kick off a march advocating a ban on gay marriage, creating a strong image linking the slain civil rights icon to today’s heated social debate. Just nine months earlier, King’s widow defended the rights of gays and lesbians in a speech at a New Jersey college. King never publicly spoke on gay rights while leading the charge toward racial equality in the 1950s and ’60s, but the clash over gay marriage has prompted people close to his legacy to pick sides and interpret how they believe King would stand on the issue if he were alive. Coretta Scott King has often invoked her late husband’s teachings while advocating tolerance of and equality for homosexuals.

Most recently, she denounced the proposed national constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage in a speech at New Jersey’s Richard Stockton College. Martin Luther King III, an organizer of the 40th anniversary commemoration of the 1963 March on Washington, joined his mother in inviting gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender groups to participate. The Kings’ youngest child, Bernice King, helped lead thousands of people in an Atlanta march last month that had an anti-gay agenda. Bernice King, an elder in the church, has declined interview requests over the past month. Alveda King – niece of the slain civil rights leader, founder of the faith-based King for America Inc.

and a vocal opponent of gay marriage – said she joined her cousin in the Atlanta march because she believes her uncle never intended gay rights to be part of the civil rights movement. Beyond King’s family, many who marched alongside him during the equality movement for blacks have drawn on his message of inclusion. King wouldn’t have stood for discrimination of any kind, said the Rev. Joseph Lowery, who co-founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference with King.

FOX News Hires Alveda King, Who Is Anti-Abortion and Anti-Divorce Despite Having Obtained Several of Each Herself

Fox News has signed Alveda King, the niece of civil-rights icon Martin Luther King Jr., as a contributor, Fox president Roger Ailes announced [on Friday]. King will provide regular social and cultural commentary across the network lineup. King is a prominent anti-abortion activist and serves as director of African-American outreach at Priests for Life. You don’t have to do much digging at all to discover that King – who is opposed to abortion and thinks hetero marriages are sacred – has freely obtained both abortions and divorces in the past. She had two abortions and attempted to get a third one.

When she became pregnant, she says her doctor, without the family’s knowledge, gave her an abortion. When she was pregnant in 1973, she went to Planned Parenthood and got a second abortion. Later, she wanted to get a third abortion, but neither the father nor her grandfather would pay for it. Dr. Alveda C.

King is the daughter of the late slain civil rights activist Rev. A.D. King. A.D. King drowned at home in his own pool after struggling with long periods of depression and alcoholism.

It’s anybody’s guess why Ms. King would turn her father’s accidental drowning – or possible suicide – into something of a civil-rights milestone, but I’m sure her version of events has done nothing to impede her marketability.

Her family home in Birmingham, Alabama, was bombed, as was her father’s church office in Louisville, Kentucky. She sees the pro-life movement as a continuation of the civil rights struggle. Dr. King is a former college professor and served in the Georgia State House of Representatives. The Founder of King for America, Inc., Alveda is also the recipient of a Doctorate of Laws degree from Saint Anselm College and sits on the Board of Georgia Right to Life. 251.To invite Alveda King to speak in your area, contact our SpeakersBureau at 888-735-3448, ext.

‘I have a dream, also’: Alveda King, MLK's niece, brings anti-abortion message to Park Ridge church

In the spirit of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., his niece, Dr. Alveda King, said she has a dream of her own. St.

Paul of the Cross invited Alveda King to speak at the Park Ridge parish to help kick off its commemoration of Respect Life Month in October. She’s also a former college professor, best-selling author and a former Georgia statehouse representative. In her talk, she drew parallels between the civil rights that her uncle advocated for and her efforts. She referenced scripture that addresses common life questions people may have for abortion and said that while God does give people a choice between the life and death of you or your child, it does not say it’s yours to choose. Lake Zurich resident Pietrina Probst said the presentation was worth sitting in on.

Probst sat watching the presentation with her mother, and she said that she’s previously seen Alveda King talk on news programs. During the question-and-answer session after her presentation, one member of the audience asked whether Alveda King had been uninvited to speak at a college graduation ceremony because of her message. She said it does happen and she tries to look past that. She said she doesn’t feel her stance on abortion is a divisive viewpoint that should separate people of different races. Megann Horstead is a freelance reporter for Pioneer Press.

Dr. Alveda King Counters Trump ‘Racism’ Claims, Slams Facebook for Blocking Pro-Life Message

Dr. Alveda King, niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., joined Breitbart News Sunday on the eve of her uncle’s namesake holiday, hitting back at racism accusations against President Donald Trump and levying her own complaints against ultra-liberal Facebook. There’s all other kind of legislation and things that President Trump is passing, including getting a lot of black folks out of jail – he’s working on doing that believe it or not and putting them back to work. Putting America back to work – African-Americans especially because our job rate or our hiring rate was so low and it’s going up along with everybody else’s rate.

He sees Americans as the people he is supposed to serve and he’s doing that. Trump himself similarly dismissed the accusers, which included Rep. Lewis himself, earlier Sunday. He cares about the plight of everybody who’s been under-served, mis-served, mistreated, and he’s equalizing that. King also expressed her frustration with tech giant Facebook, who recently blocked the pro-life Roe v.

Wade documentary – on which she is collaborating with other activists – from raising funds from the social media site’s ads. Facebook later yielded to pressure and allowed the team to crowdfund.

Civil Rights for the Unborn

Inform African-Americans and the general public about the harmful impact of abortion and artificial family planning. Activate the community to combat the harmful impact and scourge of abortion and genocide. One blood – Value Life from womb till natural death. King Rules, a new book by Dr. Alveda King.

Order an autographed copy at Excerpt of King Rules Afterward by Fr. Frank Pavone: It is Alveda Kings awareness of God, from whom every person and every value takes its origin, that shapes her convictions and inspires her actions. She is a woman of God, aware that when she speaks and writes of values, she is not putting herself above anyone, nor seeking to impose her will, but rather humbly acknowledging that because there is a God in heaven, none of us can be God on earth – and therefore the only path forward is one of absolute respect for the unity of the human family and the dignity of human life. Such a people will understand why its important not to just de-fund PP but to expose any and everyone who plays a part in their wicked schemes.
